What is it about?

News media reports repeatedly blamed increased legal cannabis sales in Canada during 2020-2021 on the effects of the COVID-19 pandemic and its associated health measures. However, we found that the sales increases cannabis sales could mostly be attributed to pre-existing retail trends and increasing store numbers. The remaining increased growth was more aligned with January’s new product arrivals than with March’s pandemic measures.
