What is it about?
Scholars who write about traditional gayborhoods need to expand their frame of reference. Ghaziani (2019) suggests a better framework might be neighborhoods as cultural archipelagoes, but I argue that planetary systems might be a better lens. Using interviews from Tampa and Atlanta, I examine the fluid movements of LGBTQ people around queer spaces, resulting in a state of near constant flux. Often it seems like they are orbiting around the queer neighborhoods, sometimes living quite close, sometimes in it, and at other times moving away in search of less expensive housing.
