What is it about?

Body growth rates of ectothermic animals are influenced by environmental conditions. Through fieldwork we found that flathead knob-scaled lizards grow faster in tropical environments compared to temperate. Through a common garden experiment we examine the possible causes of these differences.

Why is it important?

Our results suggest that not only does the warm environment of the tropical population contribute to the observed differences in field growth rates, but there is a genetic difference in the ability of the tropical population to take advantage of the warmer temperatures to increase growth rates

Perspectives

It is necessary to continue studying the sources of variation in life histories traits. Lizards that inhabit a wide variety of environments will help not only to improve the theory, but also to understand the responses of ectotherms to changes in the environment.
