What is it about?
Research into how smooth muscle cells in the walls of arteries contract and relax has long depended on the use of certain pharmacological agents. One such drug that has been used commonly is 4-AP. We show, for the first time, that 4-AP can affect arteries in the opposite way to what was believed previously, thereby questioning continued use of this drug in future research activities.
