l‐Homocysteine‐induced cathepsin V mediates the vascular endothelial inflammation in hyperhomocysteinaemia

What is it about?

Vascular inflammation is an early and vital event in the process of hyperhomocysteinemia-associated vascular diseases, including hypertension and atherosclerosis. We show for the first time that L-homocysteine stimulated intracellular cathepsin V expression in endothelial cells, and increased cathepsin V promotes the vascular inflammation. These findings may provide a mechanistic basis for therapeutic interventions aimed at reducing vascular inflammation in hyperhomocysteinemia.
