What is it about?
The quality of developing larva or embryos is determined by the contents of yolk or materials in the egg. The materials deposited in the eggs are synthesized and produced by the liver cells. Our experiment tried to improve the functional capacity of the liver cells by using curcumin found in the turmeric powder as a well known hepatoprotector.

Why is it important?
The materials in the egg are the building material for developing larva or embryos. If the materials are not enough to build a good embryos and larva, the embryo or larva produced do not grow and develop optimally. The materials deposited in the eggs are synthesized and produced by the liver cells. Our experiment tried to improve the functional capacity of the liver cells by using curcumin found in the turmeric powder as a well known hepatoprotector. Our first experiment in teleost fish showed that improved liver functions could improve the number and quality of ovulated eggs (the number and diameter of the ovulated eggs) that eventually improved larvae quality as indicated by the improved survival rate and growth rate.
Perspectives
The method of improving liver cells functions and synthetic capacity by using a well known hepatoprotector such as curcumin in the turmeric powder has a prospective uses to improve reproductive performances of oviparous animals (aves and fishes) and the quality of offspring produced.
