What is it about?
Wireless capsule endoscopes swallow a camera, antenna, battery, and transmitter into a pill. We report a miniaturized implantable MIMO antenna designed for gastrointestinal capsule endoscopy, providing two separated communication paths within the capsule's tight cylindrical volume, improving telemetry reliability as the capsule tumbles through the digestive tract.

Why is it important?
Orientation-dependent link failure is the silent killer of capsule endoscopy image streams. MIMO diversity inside the capsule directly addresses it — a small antenna with an outsized effect on diagnostic quality.
Perspectives
Designing antennas that must survive a journey through the stomach gives new meaning to robust engineering.
