What is it about?

The paper analyzes stability of AC micro grids with constant power loads based on nonlinear system theory.

Why is it important?

Conditions for stability of micro grids with CPLs are determined based on Lyapunov and Popov’s stability theorems without linearization of the nonlinear state equations or small-signal analysis of the dynamics.

Perspectives

Since the conventional linear analysis tools are not able to analyze the nonlinear behavior and effects of Constant Power Loads, specifically in an ac micro grid, Lyapunov stability theorem and Popov’s criterion are used for nonlinear stability analysis of the micro grid with converter-based CPL. It is shown that, if the absorbed or generated power by CPLs satisfies Popov’s criteria and conditions, the ac micro grid is absolutely stable.
