What is it about?
This paper introduces a new CPU scheduling algorithm, the CBS, based EDF and a reservation mechanism. This algorithm can provide temporal isolation between independent tasks and allows for the guarantee of the schedulability of each real-time task in isolation.

Why is it important?
This work opened new perspective for real-time scheduling, showing the importance of the temporal isolation property. It is the basis for many successive papers, and the scheduling algorithm introduced in this paper has also been implemented in the mainline Linux kernel.
