What is it about?

In this paper, a new model for “coordinated expansion planning of transmission and electrical energy storage systems (CEP)” to decrease the vulnerability against physical intentional attacks (PIAs) is proposed. The model is implemented on a modified IEEE 30-bus test system

Why is it important?

This is the first time that ESSs are employed to reduce the vulnerability of the transmission system. Therefore, modeling coordinated expansion planning of the transmission and electrical energy storage systems (CEP) to reinforce the transmission system against PIAs (as an MILP problem) is the first contribution of this paper. 2) The second contribution of this paper is to extend the scenario production procedure to consider seasonal and daily load variations.

Perspectives

Hope this paper helps who are interested in power systems planning and operation.
