What is it about?

This work examines the evolution of information retrieval and its related topics by examining the publications within the ACM Digital Library through the years of 1951 to 2017. Using the ACM’s Classification Scheme, which authors use to categorize their work with defined keywords; term co-occurrence analysis, where keywords that appear together indicate an association; and multi-dimensional scaling, a statistical technique to visualize the results of the many associations, the research shows specialized graphs divided into four equally spaced epochs. While the resulting graphs tell a definite story, the reader is encouraged to peruse the visualizations and create a narrative of their own.
