How to estimate the position and the speed of a synchronous motor using an algebraic approach

Featured Image

Why is it important?

Rotor position must be known to control a synchronous machine. Usually measured, the position can be estimated to save a sensor. Estimators, also called software sensors, need to be precise and as simple as possible. The algebraic estimator presented in this paper combines the two advantages.

Perspectives

With vehicle electrification, software sensors are more and more used in the automotive industry. In fact, they reduce cost and weight of electrical drives.
