What is it about?
The lack of healthcare services in outback areas raises the need for efficient remote health monitoring systems. IEEE 802.15.6 standard defines a new wireless communication standard for healthcare systems to mitigate this problem.

Why is it important?
Power consumption is the most crucial dilemma in such system. Due to the low power requirement of Wireless Body Area Network and the importance of its applications, the need of total hardware system implementation arises. We propose a low power architecture of Narrowband Physical Layer transceiver for Wireless Body Area Network based on the IEEE 802.15.6 standard. Our design has the following specifications: (1) reconfigurable architecture for symbol mapper and demapper, (2) Square Root Raised Cosine (SRRC) pulse shaping, and (3) coarse and fine timing synchronization. Our design targets to enhance the spectral and timing synchronization efficiency and overall transceiver performance, with low power consumption.
