What is it about?

Self-help groups (SHGs) in India are women micro-credit groups that financially and socially support marginalized women. These groups are prevalent in rural areas, where women face economic challenges. While many things in the world are now digital, most SHGs still use paper and pen to keep track of things. To help them digitalize, a new mobile app has been created. This app makes it easy for SHGs to keep track of their finances and attendance, and it even generates reports and provides training and market information. Using the app is easy and doesn't require special technical knowledge. This app allows SHGs to stay up-to-date on government policies and initiatives supporting women's empowerment.

Why is it important?

This study is critical because it focuses on developing a mobile application for Self-help groups (SHGs) in rural India. SHGs still use traditional paper-and-pen methods for most of their transactions and activities. The developed mobile application can help these SHGs go digital and transform their record-keeping and other activities into digital complements. This application allows the SHGs to generate different reports automatically, such as balance sheets and financial statements and also provides them with training videos and market information. By using this application, SHGs can overcome their shortcomings and irregularities, and stay updated on government policies and initiatives towards women empowerment, among others. Ultimately, this can improve the SHGs' efficiency, effectiveness, and overall success in supporting and empowering women SHGs in rural areas.
