What is it about?

The aircraft electrical network is an interconnected system of components that allows generation, transmission, conversion, and supply of electrical power to all electrically-driven devices. This article presents a methodology based on the formulation of an optimisation problem in order to produce an aircraft electrical network from scratch. Given a set of initial requirements (inputs), it is possible to design a highly reliable system that maintain the availability of power at load terminals over a certain reliability level.

Why is it important?

Safety is the main requirement that the aerospace industry demands. Therefore, any design must observe reliability requirements at its core.

Perspectives

This research has been performed under the more electric initiative. Its goal is to promote research in the field of optimisation applications in the early design stages of disruptive and innovative technologies.
