What is it about?

Development of the Internet of Things (IoT) based smart trash bank to separate organics and inorganics trash to support efficient waste management in smart city

Why is it important?

The moving trash is captured by high-speed web camera. Smart detection system is built using YOLOv8 embedded with Convolutional Neural Network to process the captured image, detects, and decides whether the trash is organic or inorganic. This information is sent to the actuator to switch the separator from the organic trash bin to the inorganic one while motor servo assists to open and close the bin cover automatically. The integration of Android based hand phone with Firebase allows access and monitoring of this smart trash bank in real-time

Perspectives

we hope this paper will contribute in Efficient waste management system, particularly the separation of organic and inorganic trash as the crucial issue in maintaining public cleanliness and health for the people of smart city.
