What is it about?

The goal of this paper was to provide additional information about the use of force in a fingerprint scanner. This paper measures the relationship between force and performance, image quality, biometric sub-system processing time, as well as subject comfort levels. Results show that 5.5N is the force needed to optimal performance, image quality, and comfort from a commercially available finger print sensor.

Why is it important?

Even though the paper was published in 2010, it still is important. Throughput, performance and usability are all important aspects in the operation of a biometric system. In this paper, force can impact the performance, and comfort levels.
