What is it about?
A quarter-wave balun was designed and implemented in a Vivaldi antenna setup. The antenna was realized for dual polarization by placing two identical Vivaldi antennas orthogonal to each other. The purpose of the quarter-wave balun is to enhance the impedance bandwidth at frequencies lower than 600MHz.

Why is it important?
The research underscores the possibility to achieve wide impedance bandwidth, especially around 600 MHz for the Vivaldi antenna or Tapered Slot Antenna (TSA). TSAs are prone to poor impedance performance at frequencies lower than 2 GHz. This paper has shown an alternative approach to solving this problem with the quarter-wave balun feedline.
