What is it about?
The mask vertical control (MVC) technique is proposed to reduce the leakage power consumption of ternary content addressable memory (TCAM). Different from related low leakage designs, the segmentation of TCAM with the MVC technique is column based. We used real routing table benchmarks to verify the effectiveness of the proposed design.

Why is it important?
The power consumption of traditional router is considerable. Particularly, the leakage power will increase as the technology feature size shrinks. According to the features of routing tables, the proposed MVC technique can turn off the unnecessary power supply to reduce the leakage power.
