What is it about?
In this rigorous analysis on fluid flow characteristics inside a modified designed spiral bubble column photo-bioreactor, the results provide comprehensive information concerning effect of fluid flow.

Why is it important?
It has been observed that the average turbulence kinetic energy fluctuates more in case of designed reactors over the conventional photo bioreactors, which in turn increases diffusivity, enhances transfer of mass, momentum and energy. While plotting the turbulence kinetic energy along the length of the reactor, it was observed the curve for conventional bubble column reactor is almost flat, whereas for designed reactors, there is variation in maximum at inlet and outlet.
Perspectives
It has been observed that turbulence eddy dissipation curves at different heights show that dissipation is maximum at the walls of the container. Swirling strength plotted at different heights shows that swirling strength of designed reactor is more than that of bubble column reactor. Swirling strength is used to visualize vortices and quantify the strength of local swirling motion inside the reactor. Based on the data obtained, it is seen that for designed reactors, it is 35% more than that of bubble column reactor.
