What is it about?

This paper looks at ways to mitigate the labour shortage in the hospitality and tourism industry. Suggestions include addressing wage-gap issues, efforts to increase employee satisfaction and tie into workplace issues values by employees, and through government assistance in training and policy changes. All of these actions can help workers see tourism as a serious long term career path.

Why is it important?

The hospitality and tourism industry employs nearly 1 in 10 Canadians and has a huge impact on our national economy. Yet the industry is projected a large gap in available labour to fill the jobs necessary to keep businesses running. Actions need to be taken by operators, industry associations, and governments to affect change.
