What is it about?
As society ages, it’s crucial to design technologies that support older adults’ emotional and social needs. This study explores how older adults engage with avatar-led virtual tourism. Based on a survey of 480 individuals aged 65–81, we found that emotional connection with virtual tour guides strongly influenced both their attitudes and usage. This effect was especially strong among those who felt socially isolated. Easy navigation and engaging avatars boosted confidence and enjoyment. These results show that emotionally meaningful digital experiences can help older adults feel more connected, reduce loneliness, and enhance their overall well-being in the digital world.
