What is it about?

This study is an ethnographic study of student engineering design teams and how they built trust. Trust developed through the use of highly trust worthy people who could act as agents for trust and transfer trust, hence the idea of a human trust token (taken liberally from semantics)

Why is it important?

This study is important because it showed the use of trusted people who act as agents of trust. These trust agents, "tokens" using semantic theory, allow trust to transfer between two groups who would not be expected to trust each other. The idea of transferable trust is important for the design of trust in engineered systems. This is from the PhD work of Plinio Morita. It is a nicely conducted ethnographic study and the trust token idea is very useful for design. The study could also be of interest to those with an interest in engineering education.
