What is it about?

Numerous cases of failures in international supply chains have reduced consumer trust in companies' ability to know what is in their products and how they are produced. We show how blockchain can be used to enhance visibility in supply chains and highlight the remaining problems in blockchain-enhanced systems that need to be solved for the technology to fulfil its potential.

Why is it important?

Blockchain has begun to be used beyond its original cryptocurrency foundations. The media has covered numerous cases, but these do not offer the depth needed to build evidence of the technology's usefulness. We show that blockchain has uses in food supply chains that can help make our food safer.

Perspectives

This is my first academic article. I learnt a huge amount from writing and revising it and I hope that it contributes to our understanding of blockchain and visibility in supply chains.
