What is it about?
This paper looks at how women are studied in the fields of sport management and sport economics. By reviewing 220 articles published up to 2023 in four major academic journals, I identified the main topics researchers focus on, the countries and types of sport organizations most often studied, and areas where more research is needed. Most studies focus on women in leadership roles or as fans of men's sports, especially in U.S. college athletics. There is much less research on the business and financial side of women’s sport — such as sponsorships, licensing, or economic impact.
