What is it about?
Different types of housing, such as freestanding houses, townhouses, and apartments, can have a very different effect on peoples' ability to recycle household waste. We compare the effect on recycling across these three types of housing and make recommendations for how medium and high density housing can be designed to better enable people to recycle household waste.

Why is it important?
Studies on household recycling tend to focus on socio-demographic predictors, while few studies focus on housing type as a predictor. We found housing type to be the second strongest predictor after age, highlighting the important role of site planners and interior architects to better enable people to recycling household waste, especially in medium and high density housing.
