What is it about?
Brazilian construction industry lacks consistent information to support sustainability-oriented decision-making processes. We ran LCA calculations for key building materials and produced EPD-like descriptions of different case studies that configure initial benchmarks of typical construction typologies in the country.

Why is it important?
The disclosure of embodied energy and carbon, as well as of other environmental performance data at whole-building level allows comparability and helps to establish performance goals and benchmarks and to guide policy decisions.
Perspectives
Given the lack of a coordinated methodological outline in Brazil, our main contribution was to provide a guideline to gradually constitute a LCI database that enables the use of the proposed metrics and of LCA as decision-making tools in the building sector. Studies on other typologies are being carried out to enlarge the benchmark base and provide a better basis for comparison and environmental goal setting.
