What is it about?

We use futures approaches to consider different ways that models of schooling could be changed. We also show how schools have changed little even when communities are designed differently such as in new urbanism settings which respond to environmental issues and offer new ways to organise work and life.

Why is it important?

We cannot predict the future but by developing preferred models for the future we change decisions in the present and near present. We also show the lack of change in models of schooling as a result of environmental sustainabilty as a big idea of the last century to argue more deliberate action is required to plan how school can best respond to the impact of the intelligence economy as a new big idea we are facing.

Perspectives
