What is it about?

Librarians use games to engage students in information literacy classes all the time. But what about using a game to engage students at orientations and other resource fairs? Librarians at the University of North Dakota modified an open source game for use at a resource fair and found it to be successful. The paper includes details on how to modify the game and ways to effectively use it in outreach.

Why is it important?

We are constantly reminding ourselves to 'go where the users are' and users are often at orientations and resource fairs. Library swag isn't affordable for every library. Modifying a free game can be very affordable and just as engaging as swag. Small or medium size academic libraries could get a lot of inspiration from this article.
