What is it about?
In our research, we’ve developed a new, open-source laser system for metal printing, aiming to make this technology more affordable and flexible. Traditional metal printers are expensive and limited in their capabilities. Our system changes this by making it adaptable and easy for everyone to use. We focused on making a system that’s easy to upgrade and repair. It’s designed to be open-source, meaning anyone can modify it to fit their needs. The open-source approach is especially useful for working with novel materials or process development. Our goal is to encourage more collaboration and innovation in metal printing. We will share all the details and designs on GitHub by the summer of 2024. This will help more people get involved in improving and using this technology. We believe our work is a big step towards making metal printing more accessible and fostering discoveries in this area.
