Warming of the filament layers during FDM 3D printing.

What is it about?

We made micro thermographic images of PLA layers during 3D FDM printing. We were the first to perform such observations.

Why is it important?

We have observed how the neighboring plastics are melting. The area of melting surface affects the strength of the printed material. With our thermograms it can be read the time of filament layers cooling.

Thanks to our work, it is possible to improve the quality of 3D printing. This will be based on the development of postprocessors that generate paths for the 3D printer taking into account the degree of melting of the layers and their cooling time.
