What is it about?
This article explores the psychological dimension of the behavior of Moroccan foreign exchange operators within the context of a gradual transition towards a more flexible exchange rate regime. The aim is to analyze and directly understand the various psychological facets of the behavior of Moroccan foreign exchange traders in their environment. Particular attention is given to the heterogeneity of traders in terms of experiences, perceptions, and strategies shaped by the new constraints of the exchange rate regime. The Moroccan context provides a unique framework for examining the behavioral adaptation processes of these actors. A methodological approach using interview-based surveys was adopted to generate verbatim data, which will be subject to qualitative content analysis. The target population consists of foreign exchange operators working in the trading rooms of banks that hold the market maker status granted by Bank Al-Maghrib. The results of the content analysis revealed four main dimensions related to the psychological aspects of the behavior of currency operators: “Behavioral Heterogeneity,” “Mimetic Behavior & Influence of Major Players,” “Behavioral Bias,” and “Technical Analysis and Psychology.”
