Do auditors respond when listed firms pledge shares? Evidence from China

What is it about?

Share pledging is a practice that a listed firm’s shareholders use their own shares as collateral for a personal loan from financial institutions. Our study find that audit fees are positively associated with the proportion of shares pledged by controlling shareholders in Chinese capital market.
