What is it about?
We show for the first time how news literacy protects people from believing in and sharing deepfakes on social media. The more news literate they are, the more likely they spot deepfakes and avoid sharing deepfakes. This mitigation effect is stronger for people who knows more about deepfake technology and discuss more with politically different others in their social media networks.
