This is an editorial piece, where Prof Jerome Carson hands over his series "Remarkable Lives" to Robert Hurst. Prof Carson has been running this series for 10 years. Remarkable Lives is a place for people with experience of mental health problems to share their stories.

Why is it important?
This piece explains why the Remarkable Lives series is important. It gives a voice to people who have mental health difficulties in a journal, where usually only academics are able to contribute. Robert Hurst also sets out where he intends to take the series in the future.
