What is it about?

There is growing evidence that mental health difficulties can be caused by very distressing (traumatic) life events and situations, often during childhood. This paper discusses how mental healthcare services could pay more attention to these experiences. Mental health staff and service users believe that it would be helpful for staff to have more training to ask about trauma, and training and support for listening and responding appropriately. The paper also discusses specific therapies for trauma and the importance of making these more available.
