What is it about?

This study examines how much carbon pollution is created by Australia’s essential services sector — including electricity, gas, water supply, and waste management. These services are critical to everyday life, but also contribute significantly to climate change. Using detailed data and a systematic approach, we measured the carbon footprint of this sector over time. Our findings help identify the key sources of emissions within the sector and show where improvements can be made. This research supports better environmental decision-making by governments and businesses and allows Australia to move towards a more sustainable, low-carbon future.
