What is it about?
The new EU Regulation 2023/1542 introduces significant changes for companies that make and recycle batteries for electric vehicles. Our study is the first to look at how these changes affect the industry. We talked to people who make, recycle, and regulate batteries to understand what these new rules mean for them. We found that while the regulation pushes companies towards more environmentally friendly practices, it also brings challenges, especially in how different types of stakeholders are defined and the responsibilities given to battery users. Our research suggests ways to improve these policies to help all companies adapt better and make recycling practices more effective. This could lead to better environmental protection and a more robust circular economy where resources are reused instead of wasted.
