What is it about?

This article examines how combining two HR practices—involving employees in decision-making and enforcing strict rules—affects employee well-being in China. Based on the idea that fulfilling basic psychological needs is essential for well-being, we surveyed 337 employees from an agricultural company and a bank. The results show that this hybrid HR system improves well-being by boosting engagement and reducing emotional exhaustion. Our research highlights how blending these HR practices can enhance employee well-being and discusses the implications for both theory and practice.
