What is it about?

This paper provides an inventory of tasks that academic libraries may need to fulfil now and in the near future to provide new and better services to researchers under these circumstances. Offering research data management and data curation, data stewardship, data governance, data literacy, data quality and standardized data citation requires librarians to be aware of this need.

Why is it important?

Networked and data-driven science, most often called Research 2.0 has the potential of transforming the role of academic and research libraries.

Perspectives

The importance of these issues is not yet recognized by all librarians and not in every country, but the need for services will appear step by step in more and more places, so a growing number of librarians must be aware of the related tasks.
