What is it about?

The ETD symposium is one of the major international activities of Networked Digital Library of Theses and Dissertations (NDLTD), and its objectives are provide a platform for the exchange of knowledge and skills relevant to ETD students, professors and Information professionals. The ETD 2016 Symposium organized by University of Lille, for the first time in France on the theme "Data and Dissertations". Lille is an island industrial city in Northern France- the medieval capital of Flanders. Data' is a currency in the age of Big Data; the new technologies being developed can produce a large amounts of digital data leads to the 'Data Revolution' and 'data-driven knowledge'. With an aim to guide the information professionals on various aspects of ETDs the symposium was opened on 11th June morning to hundreds of delegates from twenty eight countries.

Why is it important?

Data' is a currency in the age of Big Data; the new technologies being developed can produce a large amounts of digital data leads to the 'Data Revolution' and 'data-driven knowledge'.The symposium helps to develop a better understanding of some of the issues and challenges associated with ETDs throughout the world. The twenty first century is emerging as an age of data: – Personal data, – Research data, – Big data (described as ‘the sexiest job of the 21st century).
