Uses of blockchain technologies in library services

What is it about?

Purpose The present paper is based on existing literature on Blockchain technology in library services. The paper examine some potential value of Blockchain technology in library services . Design/methodology/approach Numerous papers were researched for writing this paper. All titles, keywords and abstracts contained the word Blockchain and its usage in education and library services were extracted for conducting this innovative research. Findings The Blockchain technology is emerging technology in many industries like business, health and education sectors . The technology has tremendous potential for library services if brought under consideration. The finding of this paper will pave the way for library practitioners before implementing this technology in their concerned libraries. Research limitations/implications The analysis of this paper was limited to few papers relevant to use of Blockchain technology in education and library services. Practical implications The Blockchain technology has created a discourse in the world of innovation and technology for last few years . This paper sheds light on Blockchain technology and its role in library services. This work will be helpful tool for academia and library practitioners dealing with this subject. Social implications Usage of Blockchain technology in library services will provide transparency to library users. Originality/value The paper present the first review of Blockchain technology in library services and will pave the way for librarians . This paper will help researchers in library fields in identifying its values and areas where this technology can be implemented.
