What is it about?

Oman Vision 2040 aims to diversify the Sultanate as a knowledge economy through integrated objectives targeted towards ICT and digital competencies. One of the important pillars of the Vision aims to develop technical and entrepreneurial capabilities to emerge as an important participant in the information society. The higher education institutions (HEIs) of Oman enjoy a unique position through their academic expanse & geographical reach, and hence, their role in developing emerging technical and entrepreneurial capabilities cannot be undermined. These HEIs need to embrace an ICT and digital competencies-based approach to counter technological disruptions and be active participants in such disruptions evolving in the knowledge economy. Besides assessing Oman’s preparedness for digital competency, the research aims to identify critical areas of implementation for HEIs. While providing required guidelines for policymakers, this exercise will help to identify how HEIs can substantiate digital competency.
