Military organizations invest heavily in leadership training, but do these skills transfer to the field? We tracked officer cadets through a high-fidelity simulation and found that increased leadership self-efficacy does not automatically lead to applying new skills. We show that the intention to transfer training depends on whether the cadets perceive the skills as useful and relevant to their professional future, regardless of how much they liked the course.
