What is it about?
This study explores whether artificial intelligence (AI)-generated virtual influencers can outperform real human influencers on Instagram. By analyzing real-world performance data, the research examines which type of profile achieves better results in attracting followers, gaining likes, and generating comments. The findings reveal a critical balance for the digital marketing industry: AI-generated profiles are exceptionally efficient at rapidly scaling and gaining new followers. However, audiences still show hesitation when it comes to active interaction, leaving fewer comments on accounts that are openly disclosed as AI. These insights provide brand managers and digital marketers with a practical roadmap, helping them decide when to leverage synthetic creators for fast growth and when to rely on human talent for deeper audience connection.
