Although the conditions of organization have changed and theories of organization have adapted, accordingly, the concept of organizational change has been This article investigates a potential source of failing change management initiatives: a lacking link to modern and informed theories of organizations.

Why is it important?

We found that change management research (CMR), being applied research, linking organizational practice with organization studies uses the breadth of available modern organization theory only in a very limited manner. Only very individualistic and managerialistic theories are preferred frames of research, ignoring most of complexity sensitive approaches. Accordingly - as long as CMR remains single-eyed wont be able to instruct organizations according to their actual needs.
