Using autoethnigraphy, this article describes the experience of a social worker embedding peer support in a psychiatric setting.

Why is it important?

Peer support is an important aspect of service provision in mental health treatment and rehabilitation settings in Australia. But it's establishment in existing, often traditional settings can be fraught with challenges. Successful implementation will result in its embedding so that Peer workers are seen as fully privileged and legitimate staff members. This article provides the perspective if one such experience.
