A systematic review of text mining approaches applied to various application areas in the biomedical domain

What is it about?

Textual data in the biomedical domain are in the form of scientific publications, clinical trials, clinicians' notes and health-related posts in social media. Such data are experiencing an exponential growth and if properly analyzed, have the potential to aid in the improvement of patient health outcomes. Many researchers are thus working on text mining approaches to discover new knowledge from these various sources. We perform a systematic review of such studies to find out the different algorithms, techniques and tools used together with the challenges of such systems.
