What is it about?

Hardware technology development is focused on alternative ways to manage and store consumers’ personal content. However, even consumers who have adopted Cloud-based services have demonstrated a reluctance to move all of their personal content into the Cloud and resist giving up local hard drives. Simultaneous users utilize local hard drives as a back-up system and to that they have control over their digital content. They are unsure of the Cloud’s ability to support their content creation, management and storage activities.

As more companies move to Cloud based storage, they are exposing people to more and more risk. People are taking action to protect their data by making use of both local storage and Cloud based technology,

Perspectives

More research needs to be done in how individuals can protect their digital content. The push to digital-only is often about cost reduction for organizations rather than better service for people.
