What is it about?

The study provides an updated discussion of the literature relating to free banking, contrasting conflicting viewpoints. It explains the characteristics of free banking. It then applies free banking theory to the present debate regarding optimal regulation of cryptocurrencies, providing an explanation of the basic technological features of these, the exchanges on which they are traded, and the reasons for and against the laissez faire approach which presently predominates in the UK, EU, and US.
